Sovereignty of God

The sovereignty of God refers to His supreme power and authority over all creation. God is in complete control of everything that happens in the universe, nothing occurs without His permission. This encompasses His omnipotence, wisdom, and providence, ensuring that all events and actions align with His Divine Will. God's sovereignty is a source of comfort for Christians, as it assures believers that their lives are guided by His perfect will. God has a plan and a purpose for someone and every thing.

• Authority

  Absolute Authority: God's sovereignty signifies that He possesses ultimate power and authority over everything in the universe. There is nothing outside of His control or influence.

  Psalm 115:3: "But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased."

  Daniel 4:35: "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?"

  Isaiah 46:10: "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure."

  Job 42:2: "I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee."

  Proverbs 19:21: "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand."

• Providence

  Providence: This refers to God's ongoing involvement in the world. He not only created everything but also sustains and governs all things. Every event and action are within His divine plan and purpose.

  Matthew 6:26: "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"

  Philippians 4:19: "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

  Psalm 23:1: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

  Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

• Omnipotence

  Omnipotence: God's sovereignty is closely linked to His omnipotence, meaning He is all-powerful. He can accomplish anything according to His will and purpose.

  Jeremiah 32:17: "Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee."

  Genesis 18:14: "Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son."

  Matthew 19:26: "But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."

• Wisdom

  Wisdom: God’s decisions and actions are perfectly wise and just. His sovereignty ensures that everything happens according to His perfect wisdom, even if it's beyond human understanding.

  James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

  Proverbs 2:6: "For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."

  Romans 11:33: "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"

  1 Corinthians 1:25: "Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men."

• Purpose

  Purpose and Plan: God has a specific purpose and plan for everything, including each individual's life. His sovereign will guides the course of history and the destiny of all creation.

• Freedom to Chose God

  Freedom to Chose God: While God is sovereign, He allows humans to chose to serve His Will. Even so, God still has the ability to achieve His purposes.

  Deuteronomy 30:19: "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live."

  Joshua 24:15: "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

  Sovereign Grace: God's sovereignty extends to His grace and mercy. He chooses to extend His grace to whom He wills, highlighting His sovereignty in the realm of salvation.

  Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

  2 Corinthians 12:9: "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

  Romans 3:24: "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus."
