Trinity, the Eternal Godhead

Grace, Love, Communion

2 Corinthians 13:14 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen."
  • Key Aspects of the Trinity

The Christian Trinity is the one Godhead, the union of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Colossians 2:9 For in him [Christ Jesus] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

God the Father: God the Father is the supreme, eternal Creator and Ruler of all things. He is the source of all that exists.
God the Son (Jesus Christ): God the Son, Jesus Christ, is eternally begotten of the Father, sharing the same divine nature and being. Almighty God manifested himself, became human, to redeem humanity.
God the Holy Spirit: God the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son, working to sustain, guide, empower, and sanctify believers. The Spirit also convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

    Unity and Distinction

Each person of the Trinity is fully God, sharing the same divine essence, yet they are distinct from one another. The Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father. They exist in perfect harmony and unity.

    Co-equality and Co-eternity

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are equal in power, glory, and eternity. There is no hierarchy within the Trinity; each person is fully and equally God.

Trinity of the Old Testament: God (YHWH), Angel of the Lord (YHWH), the Spirit of the Lord

Note that in the Old Testament, there is the invisible YHWH and the visible YHWH. God is invisible and is spirit. But there is a visible Angel of the Lord figure. Like Jesus in the New Testament, He can show up as: Father, Son, Word of God, Fortress, Branch, Prince, Shield, Shepherd, Redeemer, Rock, Light, King, Wisdom, the Holy One of Israel, et al.

Isaiah 48:16 "Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord God and His Spirit have sent Me."

Trinity of the New Testament: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), God the Holy Spirit

Of Jesus, it is said, 1Timothy 3:16 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God [the Father] was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

  • Supporting Verses

There is only one God. The word for "one" is the same word as Adam and Eve are "one" flesh. In this case, one "yehôvâh", one "kurios"

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

    Only One God, no others

Note: Deuteronomy 4:35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.

Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Isaiah 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

Isaiah 45:5-6 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

1Corinthians 8:4-6 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

This is Jesus clearly claiming to be God, using both His Name and the attribute of self-existence from before time.

Isaiah 48:16: "Come ye near unto me [the Son], hear ye this; I [the Son] have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I [the Son]: and now the Lord GOD [the Father], and his Spirit, hath sent me."

John 8:58 "Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, pierced (crucified)

Zechariah 12:10 And I [the Father, the LORD God] will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications [the Holy Spirit]: and they shall look upon me [the Son] whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
See also Zechariah 13:6; Psalms 22:16

The Godhead existed from before the beginning

Romans 1:20: "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."

Colossians 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

The Father's Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Son.

Galatians 4:6 "And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father."

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

1 Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

Jesus is the Comforter, the Holy Spirit

John 14:16-18: "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."

    Jesus is the Father

John 10:30: "I and my Father are one."

John 14:9: "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?"

John 17:21: "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."

John 17:22: "And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one."

the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost are One

1 John 5:7: "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

Colossians 2:9 "For in him [Christ Jesus] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

Matthew 28:19: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."

The trinity of Grace, Love, and Communion with God is inseperable

2Corinthians 13:14 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. "

  • I, Wisdom

"The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
    Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men."
    Proverbs 8:22-31
